EAA wrestling is a program that is fun and safe.  Through wrestling, kids develop strength, balance, flexibility, endurance and most importantly, confidence in their abilities.  These attributes are the basis of all competitive sports.  Exposure to wrestling will help your child excel in other sports such as football, soccer, track and much more.

“For kids who participate in other sports, wrestling gives them a taste of something different and offers skills like body control, body awareness and quick reaction that they can take back and apply to their sport.”        Tampa Tribune article

The dedication of our kids is exceptional.  Eagan’s youth wrestling program continues to grow and become one of the largest clubs in the metro area.

In-House Wrestling Season

The EAA program is a great place for kids from K - 6th grade to be introduced to the sport of wrestling through practices and both team and individual competitions.

Practices are divided into warm up, conditioning, and fun technique and skill development games.  The proper balance of activities keeps the practice fun and the wrestlers engaged.  Members of the Eagan High School wrestling team work with the novice wrestlers once a week to instruct and encourage them.   Parents with or without wrestling experience are needed to help coach teams.

Throughout the season wrestlers will also participate in team matches against each other to apply the skills they have learned in a fun and competitive situation.

Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings at the Eagan High School wrestling room.  Our first practice is Tuesday, January 6thSign up online for EAA wrestling at www.eaasports.org.

For wrestlers who have decided they would like to develop their skills and wrestle with a more competitive focus, they are encouraged to consider this club program.  Designed for competitive wrestlers from 1st through 8th grade, it consists of weekly practices that focus on more progressive technique development, conditioning and competition preparation.  Participation in occasional local weekend individual and team tournaments is expected.  Practices begin in November.  For more information, or to download a registration form, visit www.eaganwrestling.com/youth or contact Dave Ashton at 612-237-9567.

Benefits of Wrestling

``It's not about how big or tall or strong you are. Wrestling allows kids to be great athletes even if they're just small.''

For kids who participate in other sports, wrestling gives them a taste of something different and offers skills like body control, body awareness and quick reaction that they can take back and apply to their sport.

``Wrestling helps me build speed and agility,'' said Corso, who has played soccer since he was 5. ``And practicing with the bigger guys has helped me build muscle.''

 Tampa Tribune article

What does wrestling have to offer an aspiring football candidate? Primarily, it teaches him "self-reliance"--the ability to make things happen without expecting help from others.

And that's not all. In the wrestling room, he improves his agility, coordination, quickness, upper body strength, and stamina--to name just a few benefits. So, if you have a son who's spending most of the snow season on his duff, suggest wrestling. He'll be a much better football player for it!

DR. BILL WELKER – “On the Benefits of Wrestling for Football Players”

"I have seen first hand how wrestling has helped many players in the NFL including the development of their upper body, hand control, and use of leg strength. Wrestling skills help a football player move quickly to the point of attack, putting one's body in position to neutralize a play, and take control of a match-up.”
