Traveling Basketball (ETB) will provide an opportunity for kids
committed to playing in a highly competitive game of basketball. This
will be accomplished by providing an adequate amount of practice time,
as well as participation in competitive basketball tournaments, to
continually improve the performance of the individual player and the
team. ETB seeks to foster good sportsmanship from our players, coaches,
parents, and fans during all ETB practices, tournament games, and
events.
To clarify the
above statement, we provide key definitions below:
"Opportunity"
means we will
provide Tryouts for the kids to demonstrate the skills they have
attained. This will be accomplished through age appropriate drills and
game-like situations. Indpendant evaluators will be used to help assess
a childs strengths and weaknesses.
"Committed"
means that
players are expected to attend practices and tournaments and that
traveling basketball would take priority over participation in other
sports and activities that are not related to school or religion.
"Highly
Competitive" means that playing time will be distributed evenly at
the younger grades and moving to playing time based on ability at the
older grades. Each participant, however, would be expected to play in a
certain percentage of a tournament which varies by grade level.
"Adequate Practice
Time"
means providing each team with at least two - 1.25 hours of practice
time each week. Providing full and shared gym time dependent on the
grade level.
"Competitive
Basketball Tournaments"
means registering each team of eight players in 7-8 tournaments and each
team of 10 in 9-10 tournaments. Registration for a tournament will be
based on the teams level of play including some opportunity to play
beyond your current level of play, i.e. A, B and C teams playing up.
“Good Sportsmanship”
means placing a high value on respect and decent public behavior.
Players, coaches, parents, and fans are expected to demonstrate respect
for teammates, opponents, and officials, especially in hotly-contested
games. Players and coaches are expected to line up for handshakes
following all games; be a “team player”; play with honesty and
integrity; provide encouragement and guidance when mistakes are made and
praise for a job well done. Those in the ETB program strive to win and
lose with equal grace.
