Spring In-House Soccer League

Spring Soccer Season Information

NEW for 2012!

For the first time in spring 2012, EAA will offer a Pre-Kindergarten league.  This is intended for boys and girls ages 4 and 5.  The PK league will follow the same format as our Kindergarten teams.  We have limited space, so registration will be limited to 4 teams of 8 players each, filled on a first-come, first served basis.  We will need two parent volunteers minimum PER TEAM to help with coaching/kid wrangling/having fun!  Even if you don't have coaching experience, EAA will provide you with training and lesson plans.  Introduce your little ones to a sport they can play for a lifetime!

 Spring Season Soccer Format

The season will consist of 7 weeks of soccer (8 weeks for the 5-8th grade teams which have a year-end tournament).  The first two weeks will consist of 4 practices.  The remaining weeks will alternate practice-game each week.  The total number of practices will be 8 to 9 with approximately 6 games depending on the age group.  We are encouraging small sided scrimmages within each team at the end of each practice to give the players an opportunity to incorporate their new skills into game situations.  By keeping the games small, the players will get more touches and ball exposure.  Pinnies will now be provided to each team to assist with inter-squad scrimmages.

Kindergarten-2nd Grade

Each grade makes up a league:

  • Pre-K and Kindergarten teams have boys and girls on the same team
  • 1st & 2nd teams separate boys and girls
  • PreK, K and 1st grade play on 1/2 of the small fields with no goals
  • 2nd graders play on the small fields, but use the entire field and pop-up goals

All refereeing is done by the parent coaches. The emphasis is on small-sided games. PK, K, and 1st grade teams divide in half so all participate the entire hour.  Emphasis is placed on basic skill development, good sportsmanship, and FUN. No scores or standings are kept. All games are played on Eagan fields, determined by the City of Eagan roughly two months prior to the start of the season. During the Spring/Summer, each team plays two nights a week (usually Monday through Thursday). The season runs from mid May until mid July.

3rd - 8th Grade

Spring leagues are typically divided by grade and gender. 3rd grade girls and 4th grade girls have separate leagues.  3rd & 4th grade boys, 5th & 6th grade boys, 5th & 6th grade girls, and 7th & 8th grade girls combine together. This may vary depending on enrollment.

The number of players on the field is set by the Director prior to the start of the season. This number will vary from six to nine. The driving factor for determining the number of players on the field is the number of children registered. Fifth through Eighth grades participate in a tournament, which is held at the end of the season. Certified center referees are provided for all league games.

The emphasis is on basic skill development, league games, good sportsmanship, and FUN. Scores and standings are kept. All games are played on Eagan fields. Each team plays two nights a week (usually Mon/Wed or Tue/Thur). The season runs from mid May until mid July.
