Youth Tackle Football Overview

3rd-5th Grade:

Eagan Youth Tackle Football has transitioned to the USA Football model.  This decision was based on a new partnership with Apple Valley, Eastview, Farmington, Lakeville North, and Lakeville South programs, along with the varsity head coaches associated with each program. 

Third Grade

  • 9-12 target roster size
  • No weight limit for ball carrier
Fourth Grade
  • TackleBar® tacklebar.com starting the season in August
  • After Labor Day transition to Tackle Football
  • 7 on 7
  • 10-14 target roster size
  • Weight limits
    • <95 lbs | for athletes to carry football from scrimmage formation
    • 95+ lbs | player may catch a pass beyond the line of scrimmage and run with it
    • 95+ lbs | player may run the ball on a conversion attempt
    • 95+ lbs | player may play QB - but may not run the football beyond the line of scrimmage
Fifth Grade
  • Tackle Football
  • 9 on 9
  • 12-16 target roster size
  • Weight limits
    • <105 lbs | for athletes to carry football from scrimmage formation
    • 105+ lbs | player may catch a pass beyond the line of scrimmage and run with it
    • 105+ lbs | player may run the ball on a conversion attempt
    • 105+ lbs | player may play QB - but may not run the football beyond the line of scrimmage
